Zé Do Caixao is the head of a funeral business, a mysterious man whom many fear for his strange behavior. He is married to Lenita, who cannot have children, but he wants them "at all costs." Zé will fall in love with Terezinha, the girlfriend of his best friend Antonio, who for Zé would be the ideal person to continue his lineage; but his love for Terezinha becomes almost morbid, eliminating everyone who gets in the way of the story. However, things will not go well for Zé, and all the evil he has done will backfire on him in a terrible revenge... First film by the Brazilian horror director par excellence, José Mojica Marins (better known by the name of Zé Do Caixao and famous for having a reputation as a sorcerer!). In this "A meia noite levarei sua alma" there is a large amount of explicit violence, in addition to that suggested; a fact particularly rare for a film dated 1964. In this film there are very dark locations and settings; moreover, the feature film in question has the merit of creating the maximum icon of Brazilian horror cinema: Zé Do Caixao. Great the ending, supported by very suggestive sound effects, with the background voice, but also the framing and the places are really disturbing. Marins is a director with a very original style that will surely make many wrinkle their noses due to the various jokes against religion, but one cannot deny him an innate talent; even if this director has a very extensive filmography, in Italy his films are mostly unknown to the public. Overall, this film is a good product that manages to entertain the viewer and that manages to terrify with its ending! The viewing of this good film is recommended especially to people who are not easily susceptible to the treatment of themes such as that of religion! Curiosity: Before the beginning of the film there is a prologue made by a witch (who in the film will play the fortune teller) that warns us that the film is terrifying and that only if one is courageous will one be able to see the film until the end! The protagonist of this film (Zé Do Caixao) is played by the director José Mojica Marins himself. Unfortunately in Italy the films of this director have never had distribution and therefore the title inserted in the review is the original title of the film, that is the Brazilian title (the Italian translation would be "A mezzanotte prenderò la tua anima").
