A boy is captured by a witch; to try to distract her and avoid ending up "roasted", he tells her three horror-themed stories. The first features a mummy, the second a cat with paranormal powers, and the third a particular oath. Inspired by a successful US TV series "Tales from the Darkside" (original title), it is a decent episodic film. Directed by a (then) debutant John Harrison (a great horror enthusiast, collaborator and actor for Romero's "Zombi"), the film is based on three tales signed, in order, by Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen King, and Michael McDowell. Fun and very fluid, it does not skimp on blood and semi-splatter scenes; it is best to avoid watching it broadcast on television because it is "inevitably" censored, get it on rental.
