Marco Castellini
The crew of a submarine sets out to search for another vessel that has disappeared in the depths of the abyss. In the dark, hundreds of meters underwater, they will find a horrible creature, the result of genetic mutation. A sort of "Leviathan" in gore version. Directed by Spanish filmmaker Juan Piquer Simon (known for directing some cult films of the genre like "Pieces" and "Slugs") the film offers no original ideas: the first part is rather slow and focused on the presentation of the various crew members, with their encounters and clashes; the second half is more enjoyable, with the appearance of the "creature" that begins to sow death and blood. The special effects are rather cheap, especially when compared to those seen eight years earlier in "The Thing" by John Carpenter. Suitable only for fans of the genre.
