•Based on the eponymous novel by Andrew Kevin Walker. A mad killer sows death: each of his victims represents one of the seven deadly sins. The case is entrusted to Inspector Sommerset, about to retire, and the young detective Mills; the serial killer turns himself in after killing six people, when he is missing one victim to complete his plan… what will his plan be? What does the mad killer have in mind? Sensational ending! The film is mainly based on the confrontation between the two policemen, described and defined by opposing personalities. Sommerset (Freeman) is seen as the older, experienced detective who wants to take it slow by following the clues and studying the killer's personality, while Mills (Pitt) is a young man seeking redemption, with the fire that burns inside him and drives him to sometimes risky and reckless behaviors and decisions. The young Fincher's direction leaves a mark of novelty thanks to the guidance of the actors (the excellent trio Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and Kevin Spacey), the layout, and the management of a violence made of images of corpses, crime, and anything that can make a metropolis a high-risk place of death. One of the best thrillers of the last twenty years: gloomy, anguishing, disturbing, captivating, turned into a true "cult film". Must-see!
