An urban legend says that if you repeat the name of Candyman five times in front of a mirror, he will appear to kill whoever called him. A scholar, fascinated by this myth, tries to perform the ritual in front of a mirror, the consequences will be catastrophic... The plot, based on a story by Clive Barker, is engaging and original and the movie (for once) does not skimp on blood scenes; it's a shame that the film also highlights at least a couple of obvious flaws: it is too slow in the middle part and Tony Todd, although being a decent actor, does not fully convince in the role of the wicked Candyman. Not memorable but definitely of good level.
