The Verdict

A girl, after watching a horror movie on television, goes to the cinema, but upon exiting she will find the door locked. Inside the cinema, she is locked in with her also the killer from the horror movie she saw on TV before leaving: she will have to manage to save her life with all possible means.

A girl, after watching a horror movie on television, goes to the cinema, but upon exiting she will find the door locked. Inside the cinema, she is locked in with her also the killer from the horror movie she saw on TV before leaving: she will have to manage to save her life with all possible means. Will the girl succeed in this survival endeavor? And who is the girl really? A 20-minute short film by Italian director Mariano Baino, who later made the only feature film "Dark waters". "Caruncula" is a short film without dialogues that references in various scenes "Profondo rosso" by Dario Argento, such as, for example, in the sequence of violence on the dolls. Good tension and the constant sense of danger that is felt in the scenes that take place inside the cinema. A short film that manages to unsettle and a good ironic twist at the end. Unfortunately, "Caruncula" is hard to find (it is present in the special features of the limited edition DVD of his only feature film "Dark waters"), they aired it years ago on "Tele +" during a marathon dedicated to the director. Viewing of this short film is recommended especially to those who would like to get interested a bit in this director because he has only directed two short films (in addition to "Caruncula" he directed "The Car" for the satellite channel Raisat) and one feature film. A product more than sufficient. Rating rounded down.
