On an island off the coast of Massachusetts stands an old, large villa haunted by the presence of a witch. The unfortunate souls who approach the house are killed after being tortured with every kind of torment. Yet another Italian-American production by Joe D'amato. For once, the film's screenplay is less confusing than one might expect, even if it does not present many original twists. Laurenti's direction is attentive, professional, but rather discreet; the film also offers some noteworthy sequences and a certain "impact" (particularly the various torments inflicted on the victims). The film can boast a decent cast of familiar faces including Linda Blair (star of "The Exorcist") and David Hasselhoff, the star of the TV series "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch". It is precisely the latter who does not suit a role in a genre film, being too tied, in the viewer's imagination, to the characters he portrayed on the small screen. In short, a decent horror film but nothing more.
