A group of special forces agents is engaged in a very delicate operation: escorting Abedin Nexhep, an Albanian mafia clan leader, to Strasbourg. During the transfer, some killers hired by Nexhep organize an ambush to free their boss, but the agents manage to escape. Meanwhile, five young people are committing the theft of their lives in an isolated warehouse where the special forces team and their prisoner will also take refuge. The men will therefore have to ally themselves to fight a lethal and invisible enemy... Presented by the trailers as an action film, "Wasp's Nest" is actually a thriller that owes a lot to "District 13: Ultimate War" by John Carpenter (a director who enjoys great fame in Europe, and especially in France). The inspiration from Carpenter's film, combined with concepts from other films (one above all "The Silence of the Lambs", but also Romero's cult "Night of the Living Dead") make this movie - yet another proof that genre films are being reborn in Europe as well - very close to typically horror atmospheres, without skimping on some splatter effects that give that sensation of "Tarantinism" (read "overabundant and eclectic cinephilia") which is now almost fundamental in the Genre of Over There. To a first rather static part (but essential to introduce the characters) follows a second much faster and more dynamic one in which the director perfectly manages to convey the constant and nerve-wracking state of danger and siege of the protagonists, forced to face a ruthless and absolutely unattainable enemy, almost invisible. Absolutely appreciable certain framing and certain sudden movements of the camera through which the director manages to convey enormous vitality to the sequences; although it must be said that there are no real "action sequences", in favor of a static typical of the classic thriller. An interesting feature is the fact that there are no real protagonists in the proper sense of the word, or rather, there is no main character around which the entire plot revolves, everyone has their own story that, in most cases, is left to be guessed by fleeting images or brief dialogues. A successful film, not a true horror-thriller, but certainly a movie that will manage not to disappoint those who expect a thriller with a high level of suspense.
