•A group of young people, all attending a small high school in Ohio, notice that lately the teachers and some of the students begin to exhibit strange behaviors. In little time, they understand that their teachers and some of their friends are "possessed" by alien entities aiming to invade Earth. After various attempts, they discover that the only substance capable of defeating the aliens is... the drug! Directed by Robert Rodriguez (known to the horror audience for directing "From Dusk Till Dawn") and written by Kevin Williamson (who wrote the scripts for the first two "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer"), this "The Faculty" is a sort of reimagining, in a youthful key, of the sci-fi classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". The story therefore suffers from a sense of "déjà vu", to which you add a series of characters who represent the classic stereotypes of American genre cinema and a sequence practically copied from Carpenter's "The Thing" (I refer to the method used by the kids to see who among them has been infected by the aliens) and you will understand that we are certainly not in front of a memorable film for its originality. However, the movie is smooth, it gives us some successful sequences but from the Rodriguez-Williamson duo we could have expected more. Last note of curiosity: "The Faculty" is a 1998 film that however in Italy they decided to distribute only three years later, something that happens, alas, rather often!
