The first teaser/trailer of « The Cure » is online, a new dark-tinted sci-fi work that blends psychological thriller and sci-fi horror. The first frames foreshadow a macabre story built on biological experiments and family secrets.
The lead interpreter is Ally Braun, a sixteen-year-old girl struck by an arcane and rare disease that has no medical explanation. Her adoptive parents, played by David Dastmalchian and Ashley Greene, seem to be the only people willing to help her... Over time, Ally begins to connect her condition to a secret research project. Her blood seems to have unique characteristics, and therefore this element makes her the focus of highly dangerous bioengineering experiments. The story unfolds in a scientific complex isolated on a fortified island, a place that turns the search for the truth into a real struggle for survival. When Ally realizes she might have become a guinea pig, the only remaining option seems to be to attempt an escape. The scenes shown in the teaser/trailer hint at disturbing visions and laboratories where science explicitly exceeds the limits of ethics. The direction is handled by the debutant Nancy Leopardi, while the screenplay was written by the duo Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer. « The Cure » will debut in its official premiere at the Manchester Film Festival on March 21; the digital release, however, is scheduled for April.
