The "Oltre lo Specchio Film Festival" returns to Milan for its seventh edition. This festival will take place from November 6 to 12, 2025, at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts, offering an enticing program filled with screenings and premieres. An international event dedicated to genre cinema, exploring the relationship between reality and the fantastic.
The competition features works from around the world, addressing the imaginary through diverse languages. Among the films in competition are: A Grand Mockery by Adam C. Briggs and Sam Dixon, a grotesque and surreal reflection on the construction of contemporary reality; The Occupant by Hugo Keijzer, which delves into the tensions of control and identity; The Dutchman by Andre Gaines, tackling social and ethnic injustice through powerful visual language; Electric Child by Simon Jaquemet, taking us to a hyper-technological future where spirituality struggles to survive against science; and Strange Harvest by Stuart Ortiz, blending horror and ecological allegory with tension and imagination. These are just a few of the works you will find at this captivating cinematic event!
The "Newcomers" section showcases emerging voices in contemporary genre and fantastic cinema: directors presenting their first works, experimenting with new languages and perspectives. Among them, Portal to Hell by Woody Bess, an urban nightmare with psychedelic tones, and Lilly Lives Alone by Martin Melnick, an intimate and unsettling portrait of loneliness and obsession. Deep End and The Ghost explore the realms of water and the invisible, respectively, while All Quiet at Sunrise takes us to a dawn suspended between dream and revelation, blending visual suggestion and narrative delicacy. The "Out of Competition" section presents a selection of titles that push the boundaries of genre, alternating between established authors and works that surprise with originality and expressive strength.
With a program ranging from independent cinema to international productions, the "Oltre lo Specchio Film Festival" continues to be a privileged event for new forms of the fantastic, capable of combining entertainment, experimentation, and reflection.
We remind you that the "Oltre lo Specchio Film Festival" is organized by Cineforum Robert Bresson with the support of MiC – Directorate General Cinema and Audiovisual, Lombardy Region, Fondazione Fiera Milano, and under the patronage of Fondazione Cariplo.
