Una joven estudiante de universidad, Yumi Nakamura (Kou Shibasaki), ve cómo sus amigos mueren uno a uno víctimas de una extraña “maldición” que parece tener su origen en el teléfono móvil. Todo empieza cuando Yoko, la mejor amiga de la protagonista, recibe una llamada a su móvil con un extraño tono que no había oído antes. En la pantalla aparece un mensaje: “Tienes una llamada perdida”. Cuando lo escucha, no sólo parece venir de su propio número, sino que también contiene un terrible grito que suena exactamente igual que la voz de Yoko. Además, la llamada está fechada tres días después. Tres días más tarde, Yoko muere. Las coincidencias empiezan a acumularse mientras se amplia el círculo de avisos de muerte a través de los móviles. Hasta que un día, el móvil de Yumi comienza a sonar...

One of the more emotionally driven of the J-horror genre, One Missed Call is a well done film with some haunting images, which is a staple with these of course, and although I probably prefer The Grudge, still found this one engaging thanks to some fine performances, mainly Ko Shibasaki and Shin'ichi Tsutsumi. 3.75/5

Take a "Ring", add a little "Grudge", throw in a few cell phones and you have one creepy-ass movie. People are getting messages on their cell phones, from their cell phones, chronicling their own death in a day or two. Despite being somewhat long winded, the characters anxiety and eerie atmosphere kept me totally engrossed. Although I found the last 5 minutes to be somewhat perplexing, the payoff is startling.
