Un soir, Yumi est témoin d'un étrange incident. Son amie Yoko reçoit un message identifié comme émanant de son propre téléphone, mais daté de trois jours plus tard. Si la mélodie qui annonce l'appel lui est inconnue, Yoko reconnaît en revanche sa propre voix sur l'enregistrement : un cri d'effroi qui lui glace le sang. Elle raccroche et tente de ne plus y penser. Mais trois jours plus tard, Yoko meurt à l'heure et dans les conditions exactes du message prémonitoire. Au lycée, un événement similaire se produit quelques jours seulement après la mort de Yoko. Un élève disparaît dans des circonstances inexplicables. A chaque nouvel appel, la sonnerie et le message spécifiques annoncent une mort certaine à leur destinataire, avec la date et l'heure exactes.Yumi décide d'enquêter. D'autant que sa meilleure amie Natsumi a elle-même reçu un appel fantôme...

One of the more emotionally driven of the J-horror genre, One Missed Call is a well done film with some haunting images, which is a staple with these of course, and although I probably prefer The Grudge, still found this one engaging thanks to some fine performances, mainly Ko Shibasaki and Shin'ichi Tsutsumi. 3.75/5

Take a "Ring", add a little "Grudge", throw in a few cell phones and you have one creepy-ass movie. People are getting messages on their cell phones, from their cell phones, chronicling their own death in a day or two. Despite being somewhat long winded, the characters anxiety and eerie atmosphere kept me totally engrossed. Although I found the last 5 minutes to be somewhat perplexing, the payoff is startling.
