John discovers, by pure chance, that most of the Earth is populated and governed by aliens who, under false human appearances, have reached the positions of power in society. Through advertising and hidden messages, they easily influence people's lives and keep them subjugated. Man will try to rebel… An original screenplay with which John Carpenter makes a “politically” committed film that, in a sort of parallel with the film's story, hides, under the false appearances of a sci-fi horror movie, its true nature as a fierce condemnation of certain methods of American society. A great idea only partly “limited” by the low budget available. Other films by the same director may be preferred, but it certainly should not be failed.
