Clarice Starling is a top student at the FBI's training academy. Jack Crawford wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.

Hannibal Lecter... brilliant, cultured man of science, with a small flaw: he is a psychopath. Imprisoned in a special prison for having attempted (and more) acts of cannibalism towards several unfortunate victims, he now seems to have become a potential ally for the FBI in a case that reminds, in some ways, the old crimes of the doctor. Clarice Starling is the young rising agent of the FBI who will have to earn the respect of the prisoner and get help to track down the new psychopathic killer... alone. Based on a famous novel by Thomas Harris, the film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin festival and five Oscars, including four in the most important categories (best film, best director, best actor and actress). Masterfully directed by Jonathan Demme, "The Silence of the Lambs" has its true strong point in its two splendid protagonists: an unparalleled Anthony Hopkins who manages to bring to life one of the most diabolical and at the same time fascinating killers that cinema remembers, and a Jodie Foster at her best. The dialogues between Starling (Foster) and Lecter (Hopkins) make even the most demanding critic "enjoy" for intensity, research and effectiveness; some rather violent sequences (see Lecter's escape) and moments of great suspense (the final sequences) are not lacking either. In short, a must-see film, surely the best Hollywood thriller of the last twenty years. Absolutely to see (although you have probably already done so...). Curiosity: they are difficult to notice, but in the film there are two very brief cameos, or rather appearances, of two great genre directors: Roger Corman in the role of FBI director Hayden Burke and George Romero as a simple policeman.
