•In 1750, Giacomo Vigetti, a young seminarian fleeing the religious authorities of the Papal State, is hired as a secretary by a former parish priest. Excommunicated by the Holy Office for his esoteric research, the Arcano Incantatore will lead his young assistant into the world of necromancy, in search of the mystery of life and death, a mystery that no man should ever reveal... After the masterpiece "The House with the Laughing Windows" and the excellent "Zeder", Avati returns to Gothic horror by directing a film full of suspense and mystery. As already happened in his previous works, in "The Arcane Enchanter" the quiet Romagna countryside serves as the backdrop to a gloomy and anguishing story, which drags the viewer into a nightmare whose mystery is only revealed at the end. Some stereotypes of Avarian macabre cinema return: the ambiguous and "malignant" figure of the priest, the sunny setting that contrasts with a deeply macabre tale, the resolution of the mystery in a "black" ending. A true Gothic-esoteric gem in which the main themes are the Devil, magic, the terrible and dark secrets of the soul. A captivating and highly fascinating film whose viewing is absolutely recommended.
