A terrible epidemic kills almost all the inhabitants of the Earth; behind it all is evil itself. A group of survivors, with the help of Abigail, an old woman with supernatural powers, saves the planet from total destruction. A TV miniseries based on one of Stephen King's best horror novels and produced by the American network ABC. Boring and excessively long (it's almost 6 hours in total!), the film has the "fault" of being based on a book too difficult—due to its length, the complexity of the story, and the setting—to adapt into a TV version; even the unsure and approximate direction by Mick Garris doesn't help to make it more enjoyable and fluid to watch. The best part of the entire work remains the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult, which booms over the first scenes of death and devastation... The series was released in Italy only for the home video market.
