•Spain. Two dangerous criminals, the Oculist and King Kong, escape from the high-security prison of Torre Bruno. The Oculist immediately decides to go to Vicugna, an elderly manager of a nightclub, to collect a substantial sum of money. But the two criminals, once escaped, will realize that their troubles are not over, as they have ended up in the heart of a terrible alien invasion led by Vicugna.
"Mucha Sangre" is a Spanish film that has unjustly gone unnoticed due to the non-existent Italian distribution, which has made this film a product available only for the commerce of Sky's satellite channels.
Directed by Pepe de Las Heras, "Mucha Sangre" is a purely trash film that tries to blend in one work the genres Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Action, and Demencial Comedy, creating overall a funny, vulgar film and tinged (as suggested by the title) with a lot of blood.
The story, although not particularly original, is enhanced by a well-made screenplay that manages with ease and naturalness to perfectly mix all the genres mentioned above, avoiding creating messy passages. Moreover, it manages with great ease to captivate and entertain the viewer from the first minute by alternating, in the best way, strongly violent scenes (but always seasoned with a thread of irony that never hurts) with funny demencial comic interludes (like the various scenes in which the incompetent policeman appears).
The characters, although totally idiotic, could be one of the strong points of the film (especially the character of the Oculist) as they all adopt a decidedly exaggerated and unlikely attitude, making the protagonists like ironic caricatures of classic film characters. A separate discussion must be made about the conception and aesthetic realization of the aliens, which make this film a true trash film. In fact, they turn out to be really original and nothing similar had ever been seen in a science fiction film (believe me), as they are nothing more than famished aliens of the cazzo (in the most literal sense of the term) sympathetically realized with the use of small mechanical puppets.
The undisputed strong point of the film lies in the abundant doses of blood and in the nice and exuberant splatter or gore scenes, which offer scenes as idiotic as memorable and worthy of passing into history; like the formidable scene in which the Oculist, to the rhythm of classical music, chops up with a chainsaw an alien that regenerates continuously, or the revolting final feast in which the aliens feast on raw human flesh.
In conclusion, "Mucha Sangre" is a trash film with large doses of demence and strong splatter and gore tints: it would have certainly deserved a more dignified distribution.
It is undoubtedly worth dedicating a viewing to it, especially if you are a fan of films with a demencial background.
