Distraught, confused, and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened - or why she's covered in her friends' blood - Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing companions.

This is a very pale and far more generic version of the story being told in the first movie. As such, it is a far less interesting movie as well. The characters are far less engaging, the monsters are far less scary, and the tension simply doesn't materialize in the same way that the first one did. The ending leaves a few interesting hooks for what could have been further stories, but this movie is simply not entertaining enough.
