It all begins one day in December, when Julia Parchant needs help chopping wood; Caleb Tucker will come to lend a hand in exchange for a place to sleep and eat. Julia will let Caleb stay at her house, but one day Hal will show up at the woman's house to warn her that a serial killer has just been released. Julia will begin to fear that Caleb is the serial killer and, with the passage of time, they will arrive at Christmas Day, the day when a confrontation will occur between the two. But is Caleb really the serial killer that Hal had spoken to Julia about ? Short film directed by Simon Rumley (author of the previous feature film "The living and the dead"), an English independent film director, with a duration of about 15 minutes. "The Handyman" differs from Rumley's previous works because the director has signed only the direction of the film for the first time, leaving the screenplay and production to others. It is clearly noticeable that the director behind the camera really knows what he is doing and that he is by no means a novice, giving us really impeccable shots and always in tune with the unhealthy atmosphere that is felt during the viewing of this "The Handyman" ! There is no presence of splatter, but this thriller relies entirely on the atmosphere of inner repression and psychological violence that the director manages to create very well. At the beginning, the narration flows a bit slowly, but as you go on, you start to feel an unhealthy atmosphere, increasingly strange that culminates in the excellent final twist. In conclusion, "The Handyman" is a really very interesting short film that I recommend to everyone !
