Melvin Junko is one of those typical clumsy guys: a janitor at the Tromaville gym and constantly a victim of the cruelty of the bullies in the cheerful town. One day, chased by some bullies, he will end up in a drum of toxic substances. Thus, he transforms into the "Toxic Avenger," a gigantic deformed monster tasked with eliminating crime in the town of Tromaville. He will find love in a blind girl but will also find an enemy: the obese mayor of the town, who, to continue his "dirty" business, will not think twice about sending the army after him to have him eliminated.
ATTENTION. Before examining this film, I give you a premise: this is a Troma-branded film, and therefore the evaluation will be different from usual, because every film by this company is characterized by intentional trash, my evaluation will be based on the fact that it is a film that you watch only for fun and not thinking that you have in front of you a film that deals with "serious" subjects.
"The Toxic Avenger" is a good film that has become the symbol of Troma, which will specialize in the distribution of demented horror films starting from this very film.
It is an independent product, and you can therefore find everything that characterizes these types of films, that is: splatter (which is abundant in the original version), sex, ridiculous characters, and many comic scenes.
With this film, an absolute myth of horror/trash movies was created: the Toxic Avenger, who, armed with a mop, eliminates crime in the most toxic city in America: Tromaville.
Unfortunately, the Italian digital version has been cut of almost all the splatter scenes (if not all), and therefore, for those who want to recover this trash cult, I recommend watching the English version.
Viewing is recommended for everyone, but especially for lovers of the horror/trash subgenre, because it is one of the most fun horror films with intentional trash that has ever been seen. Definitely the most successful Troma product.
