Near the small town of Twin Peaks, a girl is brutally murdered. A year later, the young and enterprising Laura Palmer, a fellow citizen of the victim, begins to have strange nightmares that foretell the horrific fate to which she is also destined... Lynch returns to the successful TV series "Twin Peaks," but does not make the expected sequel, instead creating a sort of prequel that serves as a "bridge" between "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer," a novel released in bookstores, and the cult TV series. Somewhat repetitive and stylistically more lackluster than the TV series, the film once again confirms Lynch's visionary talent, directing an original and fascinating film, with a tense and violent pace, that throws the viewer into a dark and gloomy world, dominated by uncontrollable forces of evil. Some sequences are truly terrifying (Laura's first encounter with Bob, the murder scene on the train), but the film can seem a bit hermetic and confusing for those who have not seen the episodes of the TV series "Twin Peaks." In the cast, in addition to the same characters already seen in the TV series, there is a cameo by the eccentric singer David Bowie.
