An endless road, four friends, a night drive that gradually transforms into a nightmare with no apparent escape. This is the premise of It Ends, the feature film debut of Alexander Ullom, coming to Italian theaters on October 28th, just in time for Halloween, distributed by I Wonder Pictures.
Along with the announcement, the Italian teaser poster for the film was also released.
Premièred at SXSW, IT ENDS is the first feature by a remarkably young filmmaker who developed his craft outside traditional Hollywood channels, through self-produced shorts and YouTube projects. A path that has already caught critics' attention: Filmmaker Magazine named Ullom among the "25 New Faces of Independent Film", positioning him as one of the most exciting emerging talents in independent cinema.
At the heart of the story are James (Phinehas Yoon), Day (Akira Jackson), Fisher (Noah Toth), and Tyler (Mitchell Cole), four college friends who decide to spend one of their last evenings together before their lives diverge. A seemingly mundane search for something to eat leads them to drive their Jeep Cherokee down an isolated forest road. Soon, however, the four realize something is wrong: the road repeats itself endlessly, every attempt to turn back fails, and stopping seems impossible. The drive becomes a prison on wheels, while at the roadside unexplainable phenomena and terrifying presences begin to manifest. The car transforms into a claustrophobic space where fear and absurdity coexist with conversations, silences, and tensions between the characters...
Ullom himself describes It Ends as a collision between a "hang out movie" and an existential nightmare—a description that hints at the director's vision. The horror, in fact, doesn't seem limited to the threats surrounding the four friends, but becomes a broader representation of the anxiety tied to the transition to adulthood: a past drawing to a close, a future still impossible to envision, and the fear of being trapped in a limbo without choice.
With an extremely straightforward narrative device—admittedly familiar within the genre: a road you cannot leave—Ullom crafts a horror film that uses horror to explore time, friendship, and fate. The true terror may not be what lurks beyond the roadside, but the possibility that the journey continues forever, leading nowhere.
