•Jake Van Dorn, an influential member of a religious community, hires a private investigator to find his underage daughter who went missing in Los Angeles during an outing with the religious group. Given the police's disinterest, the man decides to entrust the investigation and search for his daughter to a private investigator. However, when he is shown a porn movie featuring his child, he takes the investigation into his own hands, which soon turns into a descent into hell for him... The slow and descriptive beginning is the best part of a film where Schrader manages to establish a true dialectic between the protagonist, the environment, and the minor characters. But the interest and involvement remain throughout the viewing and even increase up to the positive but far from comforting ending. A disheartened and cold look at the world of pornography, against the backdrop of a family environment, and in particular the father-daughter relationship, covered by an apparent veil of normality that hides a fragile and unpleasant reality. Another confirmation for the protagonist George C. Scott, who, with his intense skill, involves and moves the audience.
