Tratto dal celebre racconto di Poe il film narra la tragica fine della dinastia degli Usher, destinata a estinguersi per una secolare maledizione. Fantasmi, apparizioni, morti violente il tutto in un’atmosfera altamente goticheggiante. La regia di Corman è attenta a suggerire l’orrore piuttosto che a mostrarlo ed il film ne guadagna in suspense e tensione. Nel cast Vincent Price.
