We are at the beginning of the 19th century during the war between Mexico and the United States: in a mountain military outpost arrives a soldier who claims to be the only survivor of a lost expedition in the mountains, telling how he survived by eating the lifeless bodies of his companions, dead from hardship. Soon, the occupants of the camp will realize that the man, after tasting human flesh, cannot do without it and needs new "fresh" food... An unusual horror about cannibalism, far from the splatter of the seventies genre but still interesting and well directed. Bird's flat and originality-free direction is not convincing, while the performances of the two protagonists, Robert Carlyle and Guy Pearce, are absolutely good.
