A disease carried by common cockroaches is killing Manhattan children. In an effort to stop the epidemic an entomologist, Susan Tyler, creates a mutant breed of insect that secretes a fluid to kill the roaches. This mutant breed was engineered to die after one generation, but three years later Susan finds out that the species has survived and evolved into a large, gruesome monster that can mimic human form.

A species of cockroaches is genetically modified to make them capable of eliminating another type of insects that is spreading a deadly disease among the children of New York. But if we replace mother nature, the problems begin: the new type of cockroaches becomes aggressive and intelligent until they become a threat even to humans. A good horror sci-fi film with the beautiful and talented Mira Sorvino. The plot is not the pinnacle of originality and in some points it is also a bit implausible, but, overall, the film is pleasant and smooth; the special effects are especially good. Also in the cast is our Giancarlo Giannini.
