These terms govern the use of horrorcult.com and, in particular, of the features reserved for members. By signing up you declare that you have read and accept them. How we process your data is described separately, in the privacy policy.
Who we are
HorrorCult is a website about horror cinema, with news, reviews, trailers and the HMDB database, run by Codedesign S.r.l., Via Nino Pesce 38, 18018 Taggia (IM), Italy, VAT number IT01739830089 ("we"). Contact: [email protected], certified email (PEC) [email protected], phone +39 0184 716 626.
The site is free. You can read it without signing up; an account is needed to comment, save films, react, follow other people and use the personal features.
Account
- You must be at least 16 years old to sign up. If we find out that an account belongs to a younger person, we close it.
- Your account is personal: use real data, do not impersonate other people and do not create accounts on behalf of others.
- Keep your credentials safe: you are responsible for what happens with your account. If you think someone is using it without permission, write to us straight away.
- Your username and profile picture are public: they must not be offensive, misleading or infringe the rights of others. If they are, we may change or remove them.
Your content
The comments and images you publish are visible to everyone, with your username. You are responsible for what you publish. Content is not allowed if it:
- is illegal or incites crime;
- insults, threatens, harasses or discriminates against people or groups;
- contains other people's personal data without their consent;
- infringes copyright, trademarks or other third-party rights;
- is spam, undisclosed advertising or misleading links;
- shows real violence, explicit sexual content or content involving minors inappropriately;
- reveals the ending or twists of a film without warning readers.
Horror is about fear and violence: talking about it, including with images from films, is what the site is for. The limit is reality: no real violence, no content against real people.
Only publish images you have the right to share.
Licence to your content
Your comments and images remain yours. By publishing them you grant us a non-exclusive, free, worldwide licence to store, display, reproduce and adapt their format (for example resizing an image) on HorrorCult, for as long as they remain published. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for technical copies, which are deleted within the times stated in the privacy policy.
Moderation and reports
- Every new comment is examined by an automatic moderator based on artificial intelligence, which can only flag it to the editorial team. Hiding or deleting a comment is always done by a person on the editorial team.
- Every member can report a comment they believe breaks these rules, stating the reason. Only the editorial team sees reports.
- If we hide one of your comments, you see it marked as hidden by moderation, with the reason when we give one. Hiding does not mean deleting.
- If you delete one of your comments yourself, we delete it straight away and for good, with its text, images, reactions and reports; if others have replied to it, an empty placeholder remains in its place, with no text or author, shown as "Content no longer available".
- In case of serious or repeated breaches we may suspend or close the account, normally after a warning.
- If you think a decision is wrong, write to us at [email protected]: a person will review it.
HorrorCult content
HorrorCult reviews, articles, lists and graphics belong to us or to their authors. You can read them and share links to them; reproducing them elsewhere requires our permission. Film posters and data come largely from The Movie Database (TMDB) and remain the property of their respective owners; for posters, the poster notice also applies.
Some translations of reviews and articles are made with the help of artificial intelligence.
Affiliate links and sponsored content
- On a film page the links to streaming platforms go through JustWatch and are affiliate links: under our agreement with JustWatch we may receive a payment (commissions or paid clicks) if you use them, at no extra cost to you. This does not influence ratings or reviews.
- Content made in collaboration with a partner or for payment is always clearly labelled as sponsored, in the content itself.
- External sites you reach from our links have their own terms: we are not responsible for them.
Artificial intelligence features
Some features use artificial intelligence: Ghoulie, the assistant you can turn on from your profile; the reading of your taste and the chat on the "For you" page, if you turn personalisation on; search by meaning in the HMDB; and the automatic moderation of comments.
Artificial intelligence can make mistakes: it may recommend a film that is not for you, describe your taste badly, give inaccurate information about a film or wrongly flag a harmless comment. Treat its answers as suggestions, not verified facts. When the reading of your taste is wrong you can correct it; when an answer is wrong, let us know.
Availability and liability
The site is offered free of charge, as it is. We do our best to keep it working and its information correct, but we cannot guarantee that it is always available or error-free. We may change, suspend or close features of the site, giving advance notice when a change significantly affects members.
To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect damage arising from the use of the site. This does not affect our liability for wilful misconduct and gross negligence, nor the rights the law grants consumers.
Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile, confirming with your username. From that moment your profile, comments, reactions and the people you follow are no longer visible, and for 30 days you can cancel the deletion simply by signing back in; after that the account and all its data, including comments and images, are permanently deleted. Where one of your comments has replies from others, an empty placeholder remains in its place, shown as "Content no longer available".
Members of the editorial team and authors of reviews, articles or lists cannot delete their account on their own, because that content belongs to the site: they write to [email protected] and we decide together what to do with it.
We may close an account in case of serious or repeated breaches of these terms, or if the sign-up does not meet the minimum age.
Changes to the terms
We may update these terms. The version and date at the top of the page show the latest change. If the changes are significant, we will ask you to accept them again the next time you sign in; if you do not accept them, you can delete your account.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the court of the place where you live has jurisdiction over any dispute, and the mandatory protections of the law of the EU country where you live still apply. In other cases the court of Imperia has exclusive jurisdiction.
