Film made up of two episodes: in the first, a young woman manipulates, with the help of her lover, her elderly dying husband to convince him to leave her the entire inheritance; but the deceased returns from the world of the dead to avenge himself. In the second, a photographer in a fit of madness kills his wife and then tries to hide her body by walling it up in the house, but a diabolical black cat will thwart his plans. A more or less faithful cinematic adaptation of two Poe stories: « The Truth About the Case of Mr. Valdemar » by Romero and « The Black Cat » by Argento. Certainly more fascinating and visually disturbing the episode directed by the Italian director, who can also rely on a masterful performance by Harvey Keitel; rather boring and quite predictable instead that of Romero, which however reserves a pleasant surprise at the end.
