With the help of his brother Jody, thirteen-year-old Mike enters an isolated house and discovers that the undertaker of his town, a big man nicknamed Tall Man, steals the bodies of the deceased. One night, Mike decides to follow that individual and discovers that the man uses the stolen corpses to form an army of non-living slaves at his service... Having become a sort of cult film for some enthusiasts and praised by critics, this "Phantasm" by Don Coscarelli represents one of those cases where a film achieves the title of "cult film" despite modest quality. The best elements of the film are the absolutely original subject, the rather suggestive fantasy-horror settings, and a couple of successful sequences (those in which the terrible metal sphere appears that drills the skulls, emptying the cranial boxes). But suspense and fear are lacking, the pace is weak, and the special effects are absolutely mediocre. For those who saw this film a long time ago (maybe as a child), the advice is to watch it again before making hasty judgments, probably you remember it as more suggestive than it really is.
