A university professor, while researching ancient religions of Eastern Europe, finds himself involved in the strange suicide of a colleague and a series of murders that all share a common denominator: an ancient sect of worshippers of a mysterious spider-like deity. A good debut for this director (who later disappeared from the scene), who presents himself to the public with an excellent giallo-horror set in a dark and spectral Budapest. The actors and the screenplay are all of decent level, and the direction shows notable freshness and originality in the presentation of the story. Even though the best part of the film is the astonishing special effects by Sergio Stivaletti. A film definitely worth rediscovering, but rather hard to find.
