As Chianese
This is the first film about the anthropophagi by Ruggero "Monsieur Cannibal" Deodato, who commissioned the screenplay to four "authors" (Carpi, Genta, Clerici, and Rossi) for a film of poor quality, which seems more like a western set in the jungle than a horror movie; the title, moreover, misleads the viewer more than ever: it deals, as always, with an expedition of "civilized men" facing the dangers of Mother Nature and a small group (very limited) of cannibals. As if that were not enough, the film is further impoverished by a cast of terrible actors, among whom only the good Ivan Rassimov and Massimo Foschi stand out. Not even the music by Riz Ortolani lifts this film, which is truly bad, because it is torn between two film genres and because it is ridiculous in its settings and gore scenes. Yet it was supposed to launch the so-called cannibal trilogy!
