A mad scientist living on a lonely island tries, through monstrous genetic experiments, to make animals "human". The result is catastrophic and it will be the scientist himself who suffers the consequences. A classic of fantasy-horror (even if it's more of an adventure film than a real horror) based on the novel by H.G. Wells. Starring Burt Lancaster (as the mad scientist), and directed with a steady hand by Don Taylor, the film is more than enjoyable even if, to the modern viewer, the special effects used to depict the mutation of the animals may seem frankly ridiculous. Worth watching, perhaps more suitable for a "mature" audience.
