•In a not-so-distant future, the pilot of a spaceship transporting the cryogenically frozen bodies of several individuals (including a dangerous repeat offender) is forced to attempt an emergency landing on a distant and unknown planet. Only a few passengers manage to avoid death, but they will be forced to fight against terrifying alien beings that attack when night falls. Written by brothers Ken and Jim Wheat (already screenwriters of "The Fly 2" and "Nightmare IV: The Dream Master"), and based on one of man's atavistic fears like the dark, "Pitch Black" is a good sci-fi horror, fluid and with a good dose of suspense. Spot-on is the choice of the protagonist, a semi-debutant Vin Diesel who is perfect in the role tailored for him by the director. If the production had had some extra revenue to improve the digital special effects (nevertheless of high level) and if they had had the courage to add some more explicit gore scenes, the result would have been even better. However, appreciable and original (a rather rare quality these days).
