GANGSTERS, GUNS AND ZOMBIES

A group of robbers is fleeing after a heist. One of them is seriously injured and if they don't do something soon, he will die. There is tension, they argue among themselves. But the bulk of the problems is not inside the van they are traveling in. Outside, in the streets, in the world, people are turning into zombies for no reason. The robbers will have to face a trouble much bigger than the authorities. The task of the reviewer is often very fun. Sometimes you have to write about masterpieces and tell how beautiful a film is. Sometimes it is difficult to find the words to describe a work for which there are so few things to say. Other times, in front of a bad movie, you can't help but enjoy reviewing it and giving vent to all the negative comments that go through your mind. Without too many words, "Gangsters, Guns and Zombies" falls into the third case. After all, a film with a title like that, can only be two things. First: a film directed by Tarantino, Rodriguez, Wright or some other genius who puts his indisputable directorial skills at the service of a story full of homages that knows how to surprise the viewer and reinvent a genre. Second: a colossal flop. Since no one has heard of a zombie project by the master Quentin, the only option left is the flop. The director is the unknown Matt Mitchell of whom we only know that he has directed some short films about which we don't want to know anything. "Gangsters, Guns and Zombies" is a mix of "Reservoir Dogs" and Romerian zombies but it is shameful to compare the masterpieces mentioned above to this silly little film made with nothing in hand. It is obvious, however, that the reference examples are those. Just read the plot to understand. A film made with very few means... but having few means at your disposal is not an excuse for making a low-quality film. We have learned in the course of the evolution of cinema (horror and non-horror) that you don't need a big budget to make a film that scares or that remains in history. It is the total absence of ideas that kills the film and the enthusiasm of the viewer who spends time cursing himself for having spent money on something that sucks. But that's not all, because you can pass the lack of means since not everyone is rich, you can pass the lack of ideas since many times excellent films have been copies of previous films. The worst of the worst is wanting to make an ambitious film like this one, full of zombies like this one, with the presumption of making a serious film. Because that is what "Gangsters, Guns and Zombies" wants to be. A serious film. And then, let's be honest: if you want to make a zombie film, at least make sure you know how to make a zombie film. You could start with the makeup because it's not enough for a stream of fluorescent red blood to come out of the mouth of a normal person who runs waving his arms to make an actor a zombie in a zombie film. What we see on the screen for the first half hour is a group of bank robbers in a van. Every now and then they stop, look around and someone is killed by a blood-stained person (who should be a zombie), they say a couple of swear words and they leave. Then they stop, someone else is eaten and they leave. This for thirty minutes of film. The whole thing without even asking a simple and useful question like "Why do the dead come back to life?" Characters so stupid and cut with a sickle that they don't have a shred of personality. The only one who tries to make the big leap towards the "cult character of the film" is Crazy Steve who with his jokes tries to entertain the public. The viewer, already bored to death, gets annoyed. The only moment when the audience feels relief is when Steve dies. It's not a spoiler, it was quite obvious. Like the rest of the film. But be careful, it doesn't end here because there is also room for a kind of love story in the second (and slightly less dreadful) part, in which we are not even allowed the luxury of seeing a naked woman. The final judgment is summed up in one word: garbage. To be avoided like the plague.
