The Verdict

A bloodthirsty maniac massacres a large number of girls in New York, spreading panic among the people and enjoying calling the police simulating Donald Duck's voice. A suspect is then stopped, thanks to an anatomical detail in common with the killer, but the crimes continue, increasingly violent.

A bloodthirsty maniac massacres a large number of girls in New York, spreading panic among the people and enjoying calling the police simulating Donald Duck's voice. A suspect is then stopped, thanks to an anatomical detail in common with the killer, but the crimes continue, increasingly violent. A horror thriller full of splatter scenes that also remain the best part of the film. The screenplay (which Fulci himself participated in) and the acting leave, as often happens in the films of the "poet of the macabre," much to be desired. Some sequences are absolutely disturbing, and in particular the scene of the murder of the police lieutenant's lover: a real atrocity committed with a razor blade including the cutting of a nipple and an eye. Sequences so realistic and shocking that the strict English censorship declared this "Slayer" by Fulci "one of the worst video nasty in history." We advise you not to watch the censored version of the film broadcast on private television channels, but also to avoid the Avofilm edition because this one is also outrageously cut (the only uncut version is the V.M.18 years) since, without the blood scenes, the film is not worth much. If you manage to find it in the uncut version and if you prefer a lot of blood rather than an "engaged" story, you will appreciate this latest effort by the late Fulci. Last note to point out the umpteenth "Hitchcockian" appearance of Fulci, who in the film plays the small part (only a few lines!) of the police chief.
