A scientist, during some experiments aimed at researching the origin of life, subjects himself to an experiment at the limits of human resistance: the result is terrifying but at the same time fascinating... Along with "The Devils", the best film by the eccentric Ken Russell. Starring an excellent William Hurt, "States of Hallucination" is a visionary and original fantasy-horror that manages to engage the viewer in the labyrinth of madness created by the protagonist of the story. Some flaws (if they can be considered as such) typical of Russell's films, namely some hermetic passages, taste for excess and redundant style, but overall the film is definitely successful. Excellent makeup, somewhat "dated" appear instead the digital effects.
