Dr. Archibal Rue, head of the government scientific group "outfit", builds the androgynous Lazzaro, made up of eighty parts of different human bodies. The being has no memory and is obsessed with terrible nightmares that will drive him to lose control... A fantahorror directed by emerging director Roger Avary ("Killing Zoe"), already an Oscar winner for the screenplay of "Pulp Fiction", and starring, in the role of the "Mad Doctor", the legendary Rutger Hauer. The film is a sort of indirect homage to the horror, vaguely trashy, of the various "Frankenstein" of the 1930s; supported by an exceptional screenplay and by Hauer's "craft", the film is quite fluid and pleasant, although not without flaws and some obvious limitations. The special effects supervisor is Tom Savini.
