Dr. Feinstone (Corbin Bernsen), a well-known and respected dentist in the city, tragically discovers that his wife is cheating on him by having sexual relations with a worker doing some work around the villa where the couple lives. From that moment on, the friendly Doctor will have to deal with his deleterious psyche, which has become unstable and socially dangerous. A massacre begins, with innocent patients considered by the dentist to be abominable parasites to be exterminated without mercy... The Dentist represents a cornerstone of Brian Yuzna's filmography (Society - The Horror, Faust), to whom the honor or "dishonor" of increasing the terror for some young people when the dentist on duty is about to perform his medical work is due. Well, our dentist is none other than a meticulous maniac for dental hygiene, who, following exhausting hallucinations, does not hesitate to kill. Yuzna crafts a notably disturbing slasher movie through the use of widely gruesome sequences and heart-pounding torture. Expect, therefore, drilled and severed teeth and tongues with barbaric violence; delirious and hallucinatory attitudes conducted by the dentist who will do everything to keep us from closing an eye and convey all the anguish and sense of helplessness that the entire film is permeated with. But to lighten the mood or at least give the film more flexibility and liveliness, a considerable dose of black humor comes into play, which is absolutely in good taste and fits perfectly with the narration of the work. The performances of the actors are all in all more than sufficient; a round of applause goes particularly to the accurate performance of Corbin Bernson, who brilliantly portrays the sadistic and ironic character of Dr. Feinstone: from a paranoid husband to an implacable murderer. In conclusion, "The Dentist" (of which a sequel directed by Yuzna himself was also born), although it has brutal effectiveness, stumbles in the screenplay department, proving to be weak and inconsistent at times. Regardless of this, however, the film suggests to horror lovers and admirers of the director, a mandatory viewing... because the fun is guaranteed! After watching, you will surely pay more attention when you go to your "trusted" dentist...

Not the movie to watch before visiting the dentist. Not the strongest script but the horror elements were great and Corbin Bersen was a lot of fun, a stark contrast to his roles on L.A. Law and Psych. 3.0/5
