Folk horror
Folk horror is born in the countryside: isolated communities, surviving pagan cults, seasonal rites and a landscape that turns against outsiders. Its core is the British 'unholy trinity' of the late 1960s and early 1970s: Witchfinder General (1968), The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) and The Wicker Man (1973); Ari Aster's Midsommar (2019) and The Witch brought it back to the fore.
